ROCK HILL –
A Greenwood man claims someone falsely used his identity when they defrauded a cab driver in Rock Hill, causing him to receive multiple arrest warrants from around the state.
The suspect who used the 36-year-old man’s name, address and social security number was arrested in January, but did not show up for court, according to a Rock Hill police report. He has a bench warrant for his arrest.
The Greenwood man received a letter in the mail about the outstanding bench warrant, the report states. Since he has never been arrested, the man contacted the police department.
The suspect’s picture and the man’s picture do not match, the report states. Police also confirmed the man’s identity through his driver’s license and social security card.
The man said he’s received letters from other parts of the state, with the suspect still using his identity, according to the report.
The case is under investigation.
