Fire and emergency crews pulled three men and a 3-year-old child from the Catawba River on Saturday evening when the boat they were fishing in became stuck on rocks.
Around 6:30 p.m., emergency personnel were called to the Riverwalk area to help the fishing group stranded on rocks near the park, just south of the U.S. 21 bridge in Rock Hill.
Capt. Mike Ellis of the Rock Hill Fire Department said water began to come into the group’s boat. None of the men was wearing a life jacket or knew how to swim. The child was without a life jacket as well.
An employee with Rock Hill’s Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department used a kayak and got the three men and child off the boat, one by one, Ellis said.
By 6:50 p.m., emergency crews that had been dispatched to Riverwalk and Rock Hill’s River Park farther to the south were clearing the area.
There were no injuries, Ellis said.
As for the fishermen’s catch, “they had to turn the fish loose,” Ellis said.
