Deshawn Williams, 34, is charged with cruelty to children, according to police documents. He was arrested over the weekend.
In March, an employee with a local alternative school noticed injuries on a 13-year-old student, according to a Rock Hill police report. The teen said Williams, his mother’s boyfriend, had come home after work and started questioning him and his younger brother about why the toilet wasn’t flushed.
Williams became angry with the teen and hit him on the leg with a drum stick, the report states. He then grabbed the boy by his chest, leaving large red finger marks, before hitting him across the stomach with a belt, the report states. The belt left a large, red mark about 4 inches wide and 9 inches long.
He also hit the teen in the mouth, causing his upper lip to swell and turn purple, the report states.
The teen’s mother was at work at the time and didn’t know about the incident, according to the report. She left with her children while the incident was being investigated.
After almost two months, Williams was arrested. He was released on a $470 bond.
