ROCK HILL — A Rock Hill man thwarted a theft in progress when he came home to find someone stealing his chainsaw Thursday on Ebinport Road, according to a Rock Hill police report.
He told police he found the thief walking away with his Walker’s Poulan Pro chainsaw and verbally-challenged the man, the report states.
The thief then sat “the chainsaw on the ground, apologized and stated that he was homeless,” according to the report.
The owner called police 15 minutes later and said he did not recognize the man from the neighborhood.
Police responded to a separate incident of a stolen Stihl hedge trimmer earlier that day, according to another Rock Hill police report.
A man notified police that someone stole his hedge trimmer from the back of his pickup truck parked at a business on McDow Drive between noon and 4 p.m., the report states.
The Ebinport home and McDow Drive business are less than one mile apart.
Police are investigating the possibility that the two incidents might be connected, said Lt. Brad Redfearn of Rock Hill Police.
